Mission & Goals

All students in the Metropolitan School District of Lawrence Township have the opportunity to learn and demonstrate core character traits and moral virtues that can help them to become self-directed, engaged, responsible, citizens who are productive members in a democratic and global society.


We Believe

We Believe that...

  • Families, schools and the community accept responsibility and work together to promote and enhance character development in our students.
  • Our entire staff must model the "LifeSkills for Building Character" through their words and behaviors.
  • We develop an attitude, climate and culture within our schools that make good character worthy of practice and praise.
  • The "LifeSkills for Building Character" are enhanced through a variety school activities, programs and curricula
  • Our students are taught to understand the fundamental differences between right and wrong, to think before acting, to respect oneself and others, to demonstrate responsible decision-making and to be accountable for their behavior.

Goals of Our Character Education Initiative

The goals of the Character Education initiative in Lawrence Township are:

  • To encourage teachers, administrators and support staff to model, promote and teach the LifeSkills for Building Character.
  • To further enhance character development in our students by integrating the LifeSkills for Building Character into the curricula (K-12).
  • To provide expectations and opportunities for all students to understand, demonstrate and practice the LifeSkills for Building Character that will help them to become responsible citizens.
  • To provide ongoing staff development opportunities in character education.
  • To assess the effectiveness of our character education initiatives on a regular basis.
