Mrs. Carol Helmus, President

Serves District at Large

Carol is a parent of a neighborhood elementary and middle school student and has a vested interest in the excellence of Lawrence Township Schools. She has served on several district wide committees, is currently the PFO Treasurer at Skiles Test Elementary, has served as President and President-Elect of the PFO, and volunteers regularly in the classroom. Carol was a Pre-School teacher at Castleton United Methodist Church for five years and brings an excellent perspective on early childhood education and its importance to future academic success. Carol is the wedding and event coordinator for St. Luke’s United Methodist Church.

A graduate of Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois with a degree in Business Administration, Carol has over 18 years experience working with non-profit boards as a professional and volunteer. Her career has included work with the Indiana Association of Cities and Towns and the Indianapolis Museum of Art.

“I have a passion for education and will work tirelessly to achieve equity and ensure quality education for all Lawrence Township students.”

Ms. Susan Fuldauer, Vice-president

Serves District 3 

Elected to the School Board in May 2008, Susan Fuldauer brings vast experience in community service, education and business. Susan is a graduate of Lawrence Central High School and received a B.S. in Education from Indiana University. After graduating from IU, Susan served as the Children’s Program Coordinator for Iowa’s Migrant Action Council Head Start Program and later taught 5th grade in Des Moines, Iowa. For the past 25 years, Susan has served as Public Relations Director for American Income Life. Susan has volunteered on many school and community committees including Lawrence Township School Council (past president), Marion Co. Board of Zoning Appeals (Chair, Div. 1), and US Civil Rights Commission Advisory Committee. Susan and her husband, Terry Evans, have raised 2 children in Lawrence Township. Their daughter, Lindsay, an LC graduate, now teaches Spanish in the Cincinnati area schools. Their son, Ethan, an LN graduate, is a student at San Francisco State University.

Statement of Purpose

“Serving on the Board of Education for Lawrence Township is truly a privilege. We must take responsibility for educating each student to the highest possible level of academic achievement by providing an appropriate curriculum in a safe, healthy environment that encourages learning and social growth through character building and high expectations. Through the excellence of Lawrence Township educational programming, we will ensure that our students are prepared for the future.”

Mr. Jeff McKean, Secretary

Serves District 2

Jeff and his wife, Dixie, have lived in Lawrence Township since 1990 and are the parents of two Lawrence Township students, Corby and Carly. Jeff has been an attorney in private practice for more than 20 years and his office is located at Fort Benjamin Harrison. Currently, Jeff serves on the Lawrence Township School Foundation Board and is Vice President of the Lawrence Central Bears Athletic Booster Club. In 2008, Jeff was the President of the Defense Trial Counsel of Indiana. Jeff has been extensively involved with volunteer activities in the Lawrence Township schools and has served as a coach in various community youth athletic leagues. Jeff is a member of the Lawrence Chamber of Commerce, Holy Spirit at Geist Catholic Church, and serves on the Purdue Sigma Chi House Corporation Board.

Jeff received his Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Management from the Purdue University’s Krannert School of Business in 1986 and his law degree from Indiana University School of Law - Indianapolis in 1989.
 

Statement of Purpose

“I am honored to have the opportunity to serve our community on the Lawrence Township School Board. I believe there is nothing that will benefit all the residents of Lawrence Township more than great public schools. I look forward to working with students, educators, parents, business leaders, elected officials, and all community members to make the Lawrence Township school system the best that it can be.”

Mr. Adam Goldstein, Member

Serves District 1

Elected in 2008, Adam Goldstein is a lifelong resident of the Indianapolis area. He has been a homeowner in Lawrence since 1994, and a Lawrence business owner since 1997. His wife has been a teacher in Lawrence since 1991 and their four children have all attended Lawrence Township Schools since kindergarten. Mr. Goldstein Earned his BS from Indiana University Kelley School of Business in 1993. He also currently serves on the Boards of Directors for the Lawrence Township School Foundation.

Statement of Purpose

“My family is fortunate to be able to choose wherever we want to live and to send our kids to school. In 1994 we chose MSD Lawrence Township, and continue to choose Lawrence Township for its sense of community, constant innovation, diversity, and its commitment to the highest quality education. It is an honor to be part of the ever-evolving process of upholding and strengthening our commitment to the core values of our district.”

Mrs. Kathy Varie

Serves District At Large

Elected to the School Board in May 2010, Kathy Varie is a long time volunteer in Lawrence Township with a passion for public education and young people.

Over the past fourteen years, Kathy has been a leader on seven boards in Lawrence Township, her church and the community. She has served on district and school committees including equity and school improvement. She has served as a leader in school parent groups, the Lawrence Township School Council, and has led the efforts of the Legislative Council.

Kathy is a graduate of North Central High School, the University of Dayton, and Indiana University School of Law, Indianapolis. Prior to law school, Kathy worked in the telephone industry as foreman for repair and maintenance crews. Kathy began her legal career at a small litigation firm. She was appointed Master Commissioner in Hamilton Superior Courts 2 and 3 where she presided primarily over juvenile and family law matters. Kathy and her husband have lived in Lawrence Township for ten years and their three children currently attend middle and high school in Lawrence Township.

"I am humbled to have the privilege to serve all Lawrence Township residents as a member of the School Board. I am committed to increasing student achievement and holding adults accountable for that achievement through high expectations, academic rigor and a safe learning environment for all students."
