Many thanks to College Counselors, Cherlisa Richardson and Tuesday Anderson, who took over forty students from Lawrence Central and Lawrence North to the eastern United States over Spring Break on a college tour of multiple Historically Black Colleges & Universities (HBCU). School visited included: North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University, Hampton University, Bennett College, Norfolk State University, Winston Salem State University, & Howard University.
Students also had some time to tour Washington DC. Cost of this trip was partially underwritten by the Lawrence Township School Foundation. Students learned a great deal, and expanded their knowledge of the wealth of post-secondary opportunities available to Lawrence Township graduates. Below are some reflections from students on the trip:
“I like how they (NC A&M) have more African American history and how they celebrate the history.” MD Summon, Lawrence North
“I’ve changed my mind about this school (Norfolk State University). I definitely like this one more than I thought I would. It has moved up on my list.” Aniyah Scott, Lawrence North
“I really like the sisterhood at Bennett. I like that it is mall and I love the motto ‘Once a Bell, Always a Belle.’” Chelsea Fitzpatrick, Lawrence Central
