The Board of Education and Lawrence Township community are pleased to unveil a completely renovated Sunnyside Elementary School. Part of a comprehensive Blue Ribbon Facilities Plan that began in 2015, the district has invested over $174M to date on facility renovations. According to Superintendent, Dr. Shawn A. Smith, “These facilities enhancements allow us to provide a first class environment for students that facilitates 21st century learning.”
Built on just under 16 acres in 1997, Sunnyside Elementary had never undergone full renovation. With a total investment of $8.5M, updated spaces include a new exterior facade and entryway, new office spaces, renovated classrooms and hallways, including five new classrooms (two exterior and three reconfigured interior spaces), a new media center, a new kitchen, and a new driveway that is accessible from the southeast corner of the property. Infrastructure work includes new HVAC equipment and fiber optic upgrades. According to principal, Mrs. Tierney Anderson, “We thought Sunnyside was a nice school before, but now it looks amazing!” Due to COVID-19, a public celebration and dedication will not be taking place.
